Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena lonicerae)
Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena lonicerae)
Narrow-bordered Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena lonicerae) feeding on Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) on a slope of Zig Zag Valley on Box Hill. This species is difficult to distinguish from the very similar Five-spot Burnet (Zygaena trifolii), but distribution and flight periods would seem to point to this being the Narrow-bordered species - even so both have been recorded (mis-recorded?) at this site, and I have seen contradictory flight periods in different reference books.
