The channelled river has lent its name to what is now being called 'Holbeck Urban Village'.
The Hol Beck, Water Lane, Leeds

Today this quiet culvert meanders through the heart of the City of Leeds, but this tranquil looking stream once powered the mills and industry around Holbeck during the industrial revolution. The Hol Beck is a natural watercourse that was canalised with setted floor and stone walls in the 1840s. The water in the Hol Beck was once badly polluted by chemicals and industrial waste, but these days the water is clean enough for freshwater fish.
