Once the Varsity Line
Once the Varsity Line
For a hundred years this was the route of the Bedford to Cambridge railway, part of the Varsity Line linking Oxford and Cambridge. Between here and Cambridge (behind the camera) the former trackbed is used by the nearby Mullard Radio Astronomy Observatory and the guided busway between Trumpington and Cambridge Station, so when the eastern section of the proposed East West Rail scheme is eventually built it will not use the old route but a new one which has provoked a lot of opposition in these parts.

TL3854 : Once the railway to Bedford (March 2020) is a leafless version of this view.
