Edinburgh Castle
The Edinburgh Castle on the corner of Henry Street and Blossom Street in Ancoats can be traced back to at least 1811. In the 1970s it was a Whitbreads house. It closed in the early 2000s. At one stage Heritage Inns had planning permission to refurbish it but nothing came of that. LinkExternal link In 2016 it was bought by developers First Step - with a plan to turn it into a real ale pub, while the next door Woodies backpackers hostel was to be demolished and replaced with a restaurant and apartments. Ten new townhouses would include 21 new flats accessed from Blossom Street, with a new eaterie underneath. It is therefore one of the few survivors in the area. It reopened in 2019.
