The Rowley Mile racecourse near Newmarket
The Rowley Mile racecourse near Newmarket
This is one of 2 racecourses in Newmarket and is named after King Charles II favourite horse, Old Rowley.
The name of the course is somewhat misleading as this straight alone is 1 mile 2 furlongs long before a single bend to the left (from this view) allows races of over 2 miles to take place. The first section of the course is shared with the July Course which is to the west. Longer races on this course start in Cambridgeshire and finish in Suffolk.
