Wild Hyacinth (Hyacinthoides non-scripta)
Wild Hyacinth (Hyacinthoides non-scripta)
This is the true native Wild Hyacinth, called a Bluebell in England (the Bluebell of Scotland is Campanula rotundifolia, which in England is called a Harebell). However most so-called Bluebells are hybrids with the non-native Spanish Bluebell, which threatens the native plant through hybridisation. The distinguishing features of the native plant are that it has a single-sided dropping spike, and the bells are long, narrow and a very deep purplish blue. Compare with NJ3356 : Hybrid Bluebells (Hyacinthoides x massartiana).
