The view of the premises from Mint Lane, soon to be swept away in place of a hotel. What appears to be a fairly straightforward collection of shop buildings along the High Street and Mint Lane transforms into a chaotic mass of buildings from a variety of periods and original functions. St Peter's Passage, now notably closed, crosses alongside the site. The complex's boiler house is positioned on the opposite side of the passage, with access provided by a decrepit two-tiered covered bridge. When the survival of modern retail businesses depends on maximum possible efficiency and large clear floor areas, it quickly becomes understandable why places such as these get demolished.
