Shopfronts soon to be gone, Mint Street, Lincoln
All of the buildings on the left belong to the House of Fraser department shop. The Modernist-styled block at the end is merely a reclad Victorian building; the original side wall and roof parapet are visible from this viewpoint. The shop fronts in the foreground are a mixture of Victorian and Edwardian, gradually becoming absorbed into a single commercial property. The black shopfronts on the extreme left were completed in the late 1950s.
Surprisingly, the imminent demolition of this entire block of traditional buildings, tying well with the Baptist Church in the other direction, has been deemed acceptable. A hotel will act as the replacement.
