St Andrew's Church
St Andrew's Church
As in many of the surrounding villages, the church at Toft was built of local field stones with some ashlar dressings. The medieval chancel and south aisle were rebuilt in 1863 and a north aisle added; the collapsed west tower was rebuilt (probably by William Milner Fawcett, the diocesan architect) in 1894. Pevsner, who surveyed the county in 1954, questioned "how far features of the church can be taken to represent medieval evidence", but that comment is omitted from Simon Bradley's 2014 revision of his guide. The compilers of the Cambridgeshire Churches site LinkExternal link were similarly unimpressed; unable to gain access inside, they found the exterior "positively malevolent". The north porch, in a complementary style and materials, was added in 2009 to provide a vestry.

The green lane in the foreground runs through to the church at Comberton in TL3855, which as at Toft lies on the fringe of its village.

St Andrew's is listed Grade II* LinkExternal link
