The 2021 University Boat Race between Cambridge and Oxford took place here on April 4th. This river was last used for the race in 1944 when it was moved because of WW2.
In April 2021 the country was still in "lockdown" due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and the organisers chose the River Great Ouse as it was relatively easy to close roads, footpaths and bridges and make it a spectator-free event. Also the Cambridge University Boat House is only about a mile away on the river, see Link.
