39 Eastgate Street is a Grade II listed building probably dating from the mid 18th century and refurbished in early 20th. The top floors were once accommodation but now used as storage. The most notable feature is the pargeted decoration on the second and third floor.

The premises have up to present been used by Thorntons but on 15th March 2021 they announced the closure of all their stores.
