Potts Beck from Little Asby Scar
Potts Beck from Little Asby Scar
Rising on moorland to the west, Potts Beck enters the right edge of the photo and is then much augmented by the springs which can be seen directly below the limestone scars from which we are looking down. The marshy headwater area leads one to expect peat-staining, but the limestone spring water results in a very clear stream as it meanders on. The outcrop underfoot (which supplies the resurgent water) is the Potts Beck Limestone Formation, whilst on the opposite bank, partly obscured by boulder clay, is a less pure lime-mudstone which is weaker and doesn't form scars.
