Hamsterley Forest track crossing Acton Beck
Hamsterley Forest track crossing Acton Beck
This is the more used of the two tracks which contour across Neighbour Moor within Hamsterley Forest, and the lower of the two. Here it dips gently to cross Acton Beck and intersects with the original bridleway from Eggleston across the moor. The finger post in the centre of the photo marks its northeastward course towards Euden Beck, which looks like a reasonable path. Just beyond, on the other side of Acton Beck, it heads into the forest and is considerably more overgrown - indeed, from its upper end it looks almost impenetrable, as natural regeneration has filled the gaps with volunteer seedling spruce.
