The site of the Battle of Ripple Field
The Battle of Ripple Field took place here on 13 April 1643. The field is viewed from approximately where the Royalist forces would have faced the Parliamentarian forces. The Parliamentarian forces under Sir William Waller took a defensive position on the ridge, however, despite this they were swept back by the Royalist forces under Prince Maurice. The Royalist forces pushed the Parliamentarian force as far as the Mythe, just north of Tewkesbury.
