Brazilan tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) at Linton Zoo
Tapirs are widely distributed across the lowland forests and swamps of northern South America. Though resembling pigs and elephants to some extent, they are more closely related to rhinos and horses. They feed on forest fruit and vegetation and are happy to spend time submerged in water where they escape predators by using their long noses as snorkels.

Tiana (born at the zoo in 2010) and her mate Thiago now have four calves: Tulio, Thomaz, Tito and Takoda, born between 2015 and 2020.
