Grade II Listed chapel of 1872. The chapel was built to seat 400 (Kelly's 1899). Photographs in 1874 and around 1955 show the two ground floor small windows extending to a more normal sill height and the two central windows appear to be the doors. An 1868 letter from JJ Irving accepting position of Pastor is addressed to 'the Baptist Church and Congregation worshipping in the Corn Exchange'. Stephen Butt in Melton Mowbray Through Time tells us the first meeting place of the Baptist movement in Melton around 1850 was at a small Calvinist Baptist chapel on Timber Hill. In December 1869 the land in Nottingham Street was purchased for 500 and a quote for 1,180 accepted in October 1872 for erection of the new chapel. During the building works services were held in the Temperance Hall. The first service being taken on 7th May 1873 in the new chapel. They moved out of the church in 1986 and sold the building in 1987 for 90,000.
