Limestone grassland at Long Mea
An area of Great Cocklake is known as Long Mea. From similarities with West Shelvingmea and East Shelvingmea which appear to refer to well defined distinct areas of dry limestone grassland to the south-west it is likley that Long Mea refers to a similar area in this location. There is another small grassland area to the north-east of here and also below to the south-east which might have once been connected and responsible for the descriptive name, Long.
