Eighteen Twenty (An Talla Mr)
This building in Bank Street was originally Portree's parish church, opened in 1820 but disused for worship since 1934 when following reunion the united congregation moved to the newer premises in Somerled Square NG4843 : Portree Parish Church, taking with them the gallery and pews. The old church was later renamed as the NG4843 : Black Memorial Hall, Portree - hence An Talla Mr "the Big Hall" - to commemorate the Revd Alexander Black (1855-1936) who was the Church of Scotland Minister of Portree from 1893 until his death. Subsequently it was put to a variety of uses including a furniture repository, but plans to convert it into an Indian restaurant or a luxury hotel failed to proceed.

Finally in 2020 (the bicentenary year of the original building) the premises opened as a caf bar serving "coffee, food and drinks" within the historic interior which has been equipped with a new gallery.

The old South Church is not listed, but John Gifford in his Pevsner guide of 1992 notes it as a harled kirk with round-arched windows, and conjectures that the Gothic bellcote may have been added in Alexander Ross's restoration of 1883.
