Bellcote at Little St Mary's Church
Bellcote at Little St Mary's Church
The ancient bell, cast by Tobias Norris of Stamford in 1608, was rehoused when the old tower, a remnant of the original Romanesque church of St Peter, was taken down in 1882. The bell can no longer be swung, so is struck by a hammer in the manner of a Franco-Flemish carillon. It was restored and rehung in 1985 and the movement electrified in 1990. Its virtual pitch is A, slightly flat on modern concert pitch. The bell is inscribed "Non sono animabus mortuorum sed auribus viventium" (I sound not for the souls of the dead but to the ears of the living).

Currently the bell strikes the daylight hours (it is silenced overnight out of consideration for nearby parishioners) and also the Angelus (three groups of three strokes, followed by a single group of nine) at noon and 6pm. For services it is rung manually from within the church.
Church of St Mary the Less

The Church of St Mary the Less is situated on Trumpington Street at the corner of Little St Mary's Lane, next to Peterhouse. It is known locally as Little Saint Mary's to distinguish it from St Mary the Great.
The church (originally dedicated to St Peter) dates from the 12th century but was rebuilt in the 14th century.
