Looking through the Victorian chancel arch of 1870 into the Georgian nave of 1737 built for the squire Dingley Askham, and beyond to the 14th-century triple-chamfered tower arch.

There are four bells in the tower. One has been dated to the Norwich foundry of William Brasier around 1376, making it among the earliest in the country; its inscription "Assumpta est Maria in celum, gaudent angeli laudantes, benedicunt Dominum" suggests that the church's dedication is to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. "Virgo coronata, duc nos ad regna beata" appears on a 15th-century bell from Bury St Edmunds, recast in 1911; "Sancta Maria, ora pro nobis" on a third, and the last (very much the new kid on the block here) tells us that "Milo Gray me fecit 1635". The text on the modern ringers' and singers' gallery is from Psalm 100: "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise."
