Railway remnants
Railway remnants
The remains of the Down distant signal guarding Soudley No.1 crossing, which was at the other end of nearby Haie Hill tunnel. This signal post was a BR Western Region replacement for an older wooden post: signal replacement seems to have been undertaken sometime in the early- to mid-1960s, which arguably didn't help the economies of the line and may well have been done by BR in order to deliberately ramp up the costs of the line and thus justify closure, a common BR tactic in the 1960s!
