Parakeet on bird feeder, North Acton
The bird feeder is "pigeon-proof" with apertures small birds can get through but pigeons can't. Parakeets are so acrobatic they can cling onto the wire and twist round to get their heads through the small aperture and feast on sunflower hearts which disappear at an alarming rate.
Feral parakeets

Feral Rose-ringed Parakeets (Psittacula krameri manillensis) originally escaped from collections or private homes and have successfully survived the British climate, breeding and multiplying such that these birds are a colourful but not altogether welcome addition to the wild fauna of Britain.
They also make an appalling noise, which doesn't help to endear them to people, not to mention being a possible vector for psittacosis.
