Nelson's statue silhouetted against the low midwinter sun. Nelson visited Birmingham in 1802. This statue of the national hero who died at the Battle of Trafalgar was sculpted by Sir Richard Westmacott. It was unveiled on 25 October 1809, the first such statue of Nelson in the United Kingdom.
