Parasol mushroom near Shipley in Shropshire
Macrolepiota procera.
I had inadvertently taken the wrong track along the edge of this field near The Clive, when I found this magnificent specimen, almost twenty centimetres across, and 25cm tall. I was tempted to take it home for dinner, but left it because I couldn't bear to damage it.

It was by a farm track at the base of a steep grassy sandstone escarpment*, the field nearby being dedicated to a crop of oil seed rape.
