The solid material is extracted from the wastewater, then is heat treated and dried to produce this sludge 'cake'. It is then supplied to local farms as a fertiliser.
Allanfearn Wastewater Treatment Works

Allanfearn treats the wastewater from Inverness, Culloden, and North Kessock, over 47,000 people. On average it receives flows of over 250 litres per second. It also has sludge brought in from other sites, including Fort William.
Allanfearn is operated by Veolia, on behalf of Scottish Water.
