HU2874 : Blue Stack

taken 4 years ago, near to Hillswick, Shetland Islands, Great Britain

Blue Stack
Blue Stack
With a bit more tide (or swell, if one is good at timing), it should be possible to paddle through the gap between Blue Stack and Car-neeba, the peninsula from which it has been eroded. On this trip, unfortunately, the gap was encumbered with a few too many rocks to make the attempt and we all paddled round the outside. On the south coast of the Ness of Hillswick, there had been too much swell to get close into the caves and stacks, but here on the sheltered east coast the sea was almost flat and a bit more swell would have made rock-hopping more interesting, and more such gaps feasible.
