Waterfilled pit in cleared woodland
Waterfilled pit in cleared woodland
Until a few years ago, this feature was hidden in the woods; it would have been much more difficult to reach, and probably much harder to show effectively in a photograph.

This feature is marked (as it was even when the woods were still present) as a small water feature on current 1:25000 mapping, as is a similar pit 200 metres to the ENE: NS3681 : Pool on Tullichewan Muir. Note that that earlier picture shows, on the right, the woods that then concealed the pit in the present picture.

Another 60 metres to the ENE is a less conspicuous pit: NS3681 : A pit on the moor; there may well be others. As I speculate there, these pits, in a line, may well have originated as bomb craters, but, without further evidence, I do not wish to be dogmatic about it.
