Silver Jubilee Bridge maintenance, Halton
The Silver Jubilee Bridge, "Runcorn-Widnes Bridge" or Runcorn Bridge crosses the River Mersey and the Manchester Ship Canal at Runcorn Gap between Runcorn and Widnes in Halton, England. It is a through arch bridge with a main arch span of 361 yards. Since the opening of the adjacent Mersey Gateway Bridge, the Silver Jubilee Bridge has been closed for maintenance. When it re-opens in 2019 it will be tolled to prevent a mass exodus of road-users from the new bridge. When the project was proposed, Chancellor George Osbourne promised locals that there would be no tolls on either bridge.
