Sea stacks below Ellin's Tower
The kayakers featured here are all participants (or coaches) in the 2014 Anglesey Sea Kayak Symposium out on a "Rough Water Handling" Day on the west coast of Holy Island. After spending some time at the peak flood flow at Penrhyn Mawr, we were waiting for the tide to turn to enable us to return to Porth Dafarch (our starting point for the day) and meanwhile heading up the coast to South Stack (where we would meet the start of the ebb tide in another tide race). Hence this is just about high water, giving us enough depth to thread our way behind a series of stacks between Pen-las Rock and Ellin's Tower. The sea is quite lumpy, despite the lack of wind and fairly low swell, so it felt quite crowded with such a large group of paddlers in the narrow channels. All great fun, and no mishaps !
