Whorlton Old Church
Whorlton Old Church
Originally a Saxon building, it was largely abandoned and partly demolished when a new Church was built at Swainby a mile or so away.
The remaining section is still infrequently used as a chapel and was strengthened with 'modern' buttresses in 1891.

Both the tower and chapel are suffering from minimal maintenance and structural issues which will sooner or later require attention if they are to stay safe.
The large trees on the southern side have encroached to the extent they also pose a threat - both from root damage and falling limbs during stormy weather. The closest branches are now touching the tower.
