Q-pit in Ecclesall Woods
The pit was used to dry wood to produce 'white coal' which was used to smelt lead at Abbeydale Hamlet SK3281 : Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. There are over 100 such pits in the woods. Their use stopped in the 18th century.
