NZ6404 : Stockdale

taken 4 years ago, 3 km from Westerdale, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

A very remote and inaccessible side valley from upper Westerdale.
The slopes to the left are very steep North facing, and an interesting remnant of ancient woodland characterised by gnarly oak trees - some of which have toppled and continued to grow. There's also a lot of Birch, Rowan and some Holly, and least one very elderly juniper - these are also found more abundantly in nearby Baysdale.
There's a small ruined house by the beck, with paddocks around enclosed by dry stone walls which can still be seen in the bracken bottom right, and are shown on OS map.
