Site of Fernbank Mill
Site of Fernbank Mill
Fernbank Mill was commissioned for construction in 1914 by Hartley Edmondson; the Grandfather of the current owners, and the mill opened for weaving in 1915.
Weaving ceased at the mill in 1980 and thereafter a string of short-term tenants
occupied the buildings. However, it was a constant struggle to keep the 150,000 ft2 property in good order, and combined with the Council’s £50,000 per annum ‘Rates’ bill, and dwindling tenants, the writing was sadly on the wall for this once fine property. Work on the demolition of the mill commenced during June 2011 with the methodical dismantling of the structure and careful segregation of salvageable materials.
