El Pollock has very kindly gone to some trouble to place this photograph that I had been trying to place for years. The capstan has now gone and the background has changed considerably with one of the blocks of flats disappearing. The public house on the extreme right still survives and is the Royal hotel. I took this particularly because it shows the oscillating cylinder that drives the capstan.

This is pretty much the same view direction from a few feet further away from the dock entrance - SJ3289 : Wreck of the Sarsia, East Float, Birkenhead.
