Grazing land, Lower Box Hill Farm
Grazing land, Lower Box Hill Farm
Grazing land in Lower Box Hill Farm on the slope below Box Hill. Lower Box Hill Farm was acquired by the National Trust in 1999, and the Trust has an agreement with the Surrey Wildlife Trust to overwinter much of the SWT's stock of Belted Galloway cattle, used in the summer for grazing the downland in its care. Some of the cattle are seen here.

The history of the small patch of woodland in the middle distance is unclear: it looks like a former chalkpit, but the 1873 6 inch map (surveyed in 1869) already shows it as woodland, suggesting that any previous use was before that date.
