During the storms and tidal surges of the last Winter, shore protection was significantly eroded. To repair the loss and prepare for further, anticipated high tides and rough weather the council arranged a replenishment scheme using oversized cobbles from gravel quarries south of Caernarfon. This proved controversial and the effect was likened by critics to turning the North Shore "into a quarry" and much debate ensued regarding loss of sand from the beach and allegations of mismanagement of the coast. It must be said that the new shore face is rather unfriendly, but there is great interest in identifying the origin of the glacial erratic cobbles which have been utilised. See SH7882 : Llandudno Beach for a historical view (1982).
