High tide, Bangor
High tide, Bangor
An exceptionally high spring tide at Bangor, County Down. This was taken at exactly high water - 13:55 - and the predicted level was 3.80m (although it was reported to have actually been higher than this, above 4.0m). This is the 'Long Hole' - thankfully there was no flooding in Bangor but this was due to light southerly winds - a northerly gale would have wreaked havoc on the seafront.
The Long Hole

Also known as the 'Big Hole', this small harbour in Bangor, now silted up and disused, was created when stone was quarried out in the 19th Century.
