This estate village, standing to the south of the River Teme, has many half-timbered buildings, both agricultural and domestic, some dating from before the Civil War. The castle has been in the ownership of the Harley family since 1309 - this family gave their name to Harley Street in London. In 1643 Royalists launched an attack on the castle, being held off by Lady Brilliana Harley and her garrison. St Barnabas Church was rebuilt in 1656, one of the few to be constructed during the Protectorate. Coxall Knoll nearby is said to be the site of the last stand of Caractacus against the Roman invaders. This old oak on the green mirrors some which are to be found in Brampton Bryan Park. Time taken 6.13 pm BST (British Summer Time).
