Memorial to the Battle of Drumclog
Memorial to the Battle of Drumclog
This monument commemorates the last great victory of the Covenanters on 1st June 1679 over government forces led by John Graham of Claverhouse ('Bonny Dundee'). However, three weeks later the Covenanters were routed a few miles away at the Battle of Bothwell Brig.

The Covenanters were supporters of the National Covenant, drawn up in February 1638 against the attempt by King Charles I and Archbishop Laud to impose a new liturgy and prayer book upon the Church of Scotland.
