Church of St John the Baptist- graffiti
Church of St John the Baptist- graffiti
Located on the east end of the Church are a number of initials carved into the wall. Commonly called graffiti, they could however be grave markers from the Civil War. During this period headstones were frowned upon as being 'idolatry' and so, to keep a record, initials were carved or scratched on the Church wall close to the burial site.
