NS3681 : Circular pit

Circular pit
Circular pit
This circular pit is on Tullichewan Muir, and is in the shade of the woods which cover Darleith Muir. The pit is about 7 metres across, and contains a pool, which was frozen over on this occasion. See NS3681 : Pool on Tullichewan Muir for another picture, taken on a later occasion.

The pit perhaps originated as a bomb crater, but I do not wish to be dogmatic about its origins. A larger pit, about 30 metres across, is visible further to the south: NS3680 : The lip of a large pit. In the woods, about 200 metres WSW of the pit shown in the present photograph, there is a similar pool, which is probably of the same origin.
