TR3752 : Can we go for a paddle?

taken 11 years ago, near to Deal, Kent, Great Britain

Can we go for a paddle?
Can we go for a paddle?
A family contemplates whether they should go further towards the sea. There was a gentle swell but it was very cold, so staying on the shingle beach was probably a good idea.

Beyond is the third Deal Pier. The previous one was hit and severely damaged by a mined Dutch ship in 1940. This one was opened in 1957 by the Duke of Edinburgh. It is mainly concrete clad steel. There is a pier-head restaurant, refurbished in 2008, although that is better described as a cafe. The pier is popular for sea-fishing.
