NS3778 : Carman House: dyke enclosing garden

taken 13 years ago, near to Renton, West Dunbartonshire, Great Britain

Carman House: dyke enclosing garden
Carman House: dyke enclosing garden
The house's garden was enclosed by this curving dyke, and was to its right (south). See NS3778 : Carman House: dyke enclosing garden for a view in the opposite direction along this wall.

The house itself is long gone, and has left few traces, but it was to the south of the garden (to the photographer's right). See NS3778 : The site of Carman House for more information on the building.

Near the spot where the present photograph was taken, there is a distinctive clump of trees there were originally four trees, but one was brought down by a storm in the 1990s. The remaining trees, shown from a distance in NS3778 : View to site of ruined house, now have memorial plaques attached to them, bearing the names of local people (local, as in "from the surrounding area"; they are not for members of the families who lived at Carman House).
Carman House

A farmstead with a surrounding field system. See Link (in a Geograph article) for more information. In the early twentieth century the building was called Carman House; only faint traces of it now remain. See LinkExternal link for an enclosure, just to the north of the ruined buildings, where horses used to be sold. See LinkExternal link for the more extensive field system associated with the farmstead. See LinkExternal link for an annotated satellite view of the house's former site and its surroundings.
