ENGLAND

Following the 1908 Haldane Reforms the Territorial Forces were organised as numbered battalions of their county regiments. The approach to provision of drill halls varied markedly between counties. In some the halls are in the main centres of population with large buildings for single battalions or shared between battalions but in others halls are provided for single companies or half companies. Many halls were used as administrative bases for the companies and had accommodation for a resident drill instructor. The smaller halls or armouries were little more than a muster station and secure place to store their equipment.
