Down from Wallingford bridge and used as a bat box.

By Wallingford swimming pool and has been used by the pool to store stuff in for years.

This one I never realised was there when I worked at the place.

Easy to see from the Thames path but is in a river frontage so to visit you need to ask the owner.

Next along and the only Type 28 still standing. Looks like it is used as a summer house as there is a shutter in the Loophole.

This one is in a field near the lock and what I thought was the only one at Benson...

...until someone told me about this near the lock chamber it is well hidden but viewable.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU6191 : Wood in front by Bill Nicholls
Possibly the hardest to find due to it being so overgrown and hidden also being in a boatyard you tended to walk past it.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU6091 : Pillbox by the ditch by Bill Nicholls SU6091 : The back door by Bill Nicholls
Around halfway to Shillingford from Benson and a little way off the Thames path but it's gets flooded so the ground nearby is marshy at times.

Not quite on the Thames more like the main Henley road nearby.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5992 : Gun emplacement near the bridge by Bill Nicholls SU5992 : Inside the emplacement by Bill Nicholls
Probably the one which gave me most pleasure this gun emplacement no one could find.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5992 : Soon be hidden by Bill Nicholls SU5992 : Ivy growing down by Bill Nicholls
On the other side of Shillingford bridge though it can't be seen from the bridge.

Another near the main road but facing the river if you drove past you could not see it as it is around hedge level

At the Dorchester end of the Dyke Hills facing towards the river Thames.

One of the nicer settings near Days lock and the opposite end of the Dyke hills.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5694 : Here it is by Bill Nicholls
Behind a farm near Little Wittenham though I'd get permission if you want to visit.

Covered by the last and faces roadblocks at Newbarn farm, need to follow the field boundary to get to it and watch out for the wildlife.

[smallamp SU 553 947] SU5594 : Partially hidden by Bill Nicholls There is a base that would have formed a second one nearby there are also a set of six roadblocks it faces.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5494 : Pillbox in the garden by Bill Nicholls Faces the roadblocks across the river.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5494 : Pillbox on the cut by Bill Nicholls This is one that is not worth the effort visiting as it is blocked up and there is a person who owns the fishing rights who is not happy about you going there.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5493 : Back of the box by Bill Nicholls
On the same island as the last so not easy to get to, mind you if you had a boat..?

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5294 : Pillbox on the edge by Bill Nicholls SU5294 : Back of the pillbox by Bill Nicholls
A bit further up the field from the next.

A trek to get to but worth the effort for the railbridge over the Thames.

Faces the rail bridge direction at Appleford

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5194 : Pillbox in the corner by Bill Nicholls
An interesting one as it has an ROC post nearby.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5094 : Looking at the clear side by Bill Nicholls SU5094 : Head on view by Bill Nicholls
First one I had come across where corrugated iron had been used as shuttering.

Along the footpath from Culham to Sutton Courtney.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5095 : Covered in ivy by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : The shape in there by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : Entrance in the ivy by Bill Nicholls
This is, from what I can see, the last one along the section of the Thames from Pangbourne to Abingdon. Recently I came back and got some new photos and managed to get inside only to find it was full of rubbish which was up to the loophole in parts.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5095 : Back to old Culham bridge by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : It was just here by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : Recess on the bridge by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : Here is the proof by Bill Nicholls
This is old Culham bridge which in the second world war had two pillboxes on. One Type 28A and a smaller Type 28. I only found them after noticing a fellow pillbox hunter posting a photo of them; before that I walked over them a couple of times. This was the larger of the two.

1:50,000 Modern Day Landranger(TM) Map © Crown Copyright SU5095 : Type 28 here by Bill Nicholls SU5095 : Pillbox on the bend by Bill Nicholls
This area was where the Type 28 would have been back to back with the other pillbox.

This You Tube video came to light and shows what was the pillbox at Abingdon, now demolished. The pillbox can be seen at 3.44 min LinkExternal link
