Geo-Trips :: Geograph 13th birthday meet in Leeds

South Leeds

A walk from Leeds Station, Sat, 10 Mar 2018 by Alan Murray-Rust

The walk was led by Stephen Crave. Starting from the Station, it went via the Dark Arches to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and into the original early 19th century industrial area of Leeds including the iconic Grade I Listed Temple Works, in Egyptian style.

It continued through the Victorian suburbs of Holbeck and Hunslet with a variety of late 19th, early 20th and late 20th housing to reach the southern end of the Middleton railway. It then followed the railway, partly on the trackbed of the former tramway to Middleton, ending by climbing up through Middleton Woods to the Visitor Centre and St Mary's Church.

On the map below, the grey line is the GPS track from this trip. Click the blue circles to see a photograph taken from that spot and read further information about the location. The blue lines indicate the direction of view. There is also a slideshow of this trip. ( )
